What to watch on TV tonight: Friday
DailyEdge.ie rounds up the TV shows that you’ll be tweeting about tonight and talking about tomorrow.
The Late Late Show (RTÉ One, 9.35pm)
Tonight’s Late Late Show guests include Rod Stewart, Bataclan survivors Katie Healy and David Nolan, as well as cervical cancer campaigner Laura Brennan. Colm O’Regan will be on to discuss his new book Ann Devine, Ready For Her Close-Up, and actor Joe McKinney will be on to have a chat about his appearance in that classic Guinness ad 25 years ago. There’ll be music from James Morrison, and a performance from Rhythm of the Dance.
Boyhood (RTÉ 2, 9.15pm)
Filmed over 12 years with the same cast, Richard Linklater’s BOYHOOD is a groundbreaking story of growing up as seen through the eyes of a child named Mason (who was played by Ellar Coltrane), who literally grows up on screen before our eyes. Starring Ethan Hawke and Patricia Arquette as Mason’s parents, and newcomer Lorelei Linklater as his sister Samantha, BOYHOOD charts the rocky terrain of childhood like no other film has before. The film begins with a six-year-old facing a reunion with his estranged father and a move into a new house. As he grows up, he experiences a number of upheavals, before eventually leaving for college.
Comic Relief 2019 (BBC One, 7pm)
Droves of celebs come together to raise money for the Red Nose charity, which works to change the lives of vulnerable people and communities in the UK and abroad. Highlights include Hugh Grant, Rowan Atkinson and more cast members from the 1994 film Four Weddings and a Funeral returning for a one-off special, an appearance from the cast of Only Fools & Horses: The Musical, as well as celebs like Emma Willis, Lenny Henry, Freddie Flintoff, Paddy McGuinness, David Tennant, Zoe Ball, Romesh Ranganathan and Alesha Dixon.
Everybody’s talking about… 60 Days on the Streets.
Channel 4 Channel 4
Last night, Ed Stafford’s new vivid account of sleeping rough caught the attention of plenty of viewers, and many were shocked at the reality of homelessness and how desensitised we have all become. If you missed it, you can catch up with the first episode of the three-part series on All 4. (The Guardian) (This Morning)
Everybody’s also talking about… Season 3 of The Crown.
Netflix Netflix
Fans of The Crown and Olivia Colman were hoping to see the show brought back in the first half of the year, but unfortunately that’s not gonna happen. The Crown confirmed that they will not be putting the third season forward for consideration at the 2019 Emmys, which means it will not be released before the deadline on the 31st of May. Oh well.
